Thursday's Muse Matinee
The matinee of literary art and lyrics features performances by Porttikielto Taivaaseen, a group combining pop music and spoken word poetry, spoken word artist Taivaanrannanmaalari, singer-songwriter Marjaana and actor-poet Keke Lammassaari, who also serves as the master of ceremonies for the event.
Porttikielto Taivaaseen
Porttikielto Taivaaseen ("Banned from Heaven") delivers chillingly beautiful pop that moves seamlessly between earth and hell. Their soundscape is mostly eerie, with songs that swell into monumental pieces just when you least expect it — or even before you realize it’s happening. Traditional structures are broken with deliberate care. Porttikielto Taivaaseen is not identified as a single person but rather as an artistic entity — a body of work that immerses the listener in the bleak turmoil of intimate partner violence. Elisa Koivupuro: vocals, Lajune: spoken word.
Taivaanrannanmaalari
Alisa, a.k.a. Taivaanrannanmaalari (“Painter of the Horizon”), writes stories that reflect how she sees, experiences, and senses the world. Her texts have been described as raw, brutal, and cutting—though softer, even humorous stories are also part of her repertoire.
Marjaana
Singer-songwriter Marjaana from Oulu performs both as a trio and solo with piano accompaniment. Her set features texts unearthed from her proverbial desk drawer—pieces that explore even dark themes, carried by irony and a playful use of words and expressions.
Keke Lammassaari
The host of the matinee and founder of Kulttuurikuvaamo, Keke Lammassaari is a multidisciplinary artist recognized for both his music and erotic poetry. A true chameleon on stage, Lammassaari performs as a gritty-voiced blues rock singer, a fluid-spoken performance poet, a children’s music entertainer, and even a film actor. At the matinee, he may present poetry, music, or a monologue excerpt.
