The Little Haiku Workshop

17.8.2025

The Little Haiku Workshop is a compact, three-hour session where participants will learn to write haiku poems about both everyday, familiar topics and life’s greatest mysteries, drawing on the rich traditions of Japanese poetry. Haiku is a wonderful gateway into the world of poetry writing. Its strict structural rules offer a sense of security, and its brevity encourages concise expression. The workshop emphasizes joyful, collaborative learning—no previous writing experience is required, just a dash of courage to dive in!

In the Little Haiku Workshop, participants will explore the form and unique features of haiku, awaken their creative selves, and uncover ideas through various exercises. At the end, the haikus will be carefully wrapped into beautiful poems and shared together. A small poetry exhibition featuring the haikus created in the workshop will also be held later in the autumn at the Observatory Café.

The workshop is led by Aurora Sainio, an author, Bachelor of Japanology, and specialist in Japanese culture, who has studied the creation and interpretation of haiku through her university studies in Japanese language and culture.
