Star Dust... Sing Along!

Reality TV is one of the purest forms of hyperreality. It constructs a "reality" that is more real than reality itself—a steroid-boosted simulation of emotion and “authenticity” that compensates for the uneventfulness of everyday life. It's scripted laughter, tears, and laughing-through-tears. So let us return to the turn of the millennium and to the birthplace of Finland’s own idol industry!

In the first season of Idols Finland, ordinary people were either manufactured into stars or had their dreams crushed already during the auditions—before the watchful eyes of the nation and Jone Nikula’s hair. Star Dust... Sing Along! compiles the most iconic moments from this classic TV competition, excavated from the depths of our collective memory.

Singing along is encouraged, and at the end of the screening, we’ll vote for our winner. Will the record deal go once again to the forklift driver from Lappeenranta or the shy cashier from Rovaniemi? Either way: the winds are changing, a new era begins!
