Opening concert at Tuira Church

Singer Riikka Keränen and pianist Juho Valjakka present On Canvas, a concert featuring new jazz music inspired by the art and life of Reidar Särestöniemi. Särestöniemi’s striking use of colour and unconventional painting techniques have inspired the duo to experiment with harmonies and textures that challenge traditional jazz conventions in the interpretation of their original compositions. In the concert, Keränen’s warm voice, Valjakka’s refined musical language, and their captivating interplay invite the audience into a world of enchanting musical shades and nuances.

Riikka Keränen and Juho Valjakka, who both made their recording debuts in 2022 with A Vision of a Garden (Keränen) and Liminal Spaces (Valjakka), respectively, are among the most distinctive emerging artists on the Finnish jazz scene.
