Next Wave
You’re cordially invited to discover what the future of Finnish music videos looks like—and whether it carries influences from Sweden.
Launched earlier this year, OMVF Next is a masterclass program dedicated to emerging music video directors. Its aim has been to support the professional development of a new generation of promising talents. Five directors were selected through an open call: Carmen Baltzar, Krasimir Jovanovic Hyvärinen, Aatos Ketvel, Joonas Lind, and Ilona Lehtonen. Over the past six months, they’ve been working on new pieces under the mentorship of filmmaker Mika Taanila and director Marcus Söderlund.
In addition to brand new videos and their creators, the screening also features a mini-retrospective of Marcus Söderlund’s work. Born in Sweden in 1976 and graduated in film directing from the University of Gothenburg in 2007, Söderlund has directed music videos for artists such as Yung Lean and The XX, as well as commercials for Apple and McLaren. His videos have earned him four Grammy nominations, the Kodak Cinematography Award, and praise in Pitchfork’s best-of lists.
OMVF Next is supported by AVEK. Free admission.
