Richard Bona Trio, Aki Rissanen Hyperreal, OYJO Alumni
Friday of Elojazz is headlined by Richard Bona Trio!
Grammy-award winning Richard Bona is one of the most successful bass players, composers and multi-instrumentalists today. With his unique touch on African music, he brings the continents history and culture alive today. Over the years Bona has collaborated with Joe Zawinul, Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, Pat Metheny and Vinnie Colaiuta to name a few.
The concert will also feature the fresh and more electronic project of Aki Rissanen, Hyperreal. Rissanen and his band combine Nordic jazz expression, hypnotic Middle Eastern rhythms and machine music elements. The most prominent jazz pianist in Finland at the moment, Aki Rissanen's Hyperreal trio also features trumpeter Verneri Pohjola and drummer Robert Ikizi.
The concert will be opened by the local Oulu Youth Jazz Orchestra Alumni. OYJO is the youth big band of Madetoja Music High School and Oulu Conservatory. For Elojazz 2023, conductor Jaakko Jauhiainen has put together an exceptional line-up, which includes young people who played in OYJO. Riikka Keränen and Suvi Aalto are coming to OYJO Alumni as vocal soloists. The concert promises the joy of a reunion at the hometown's most significant jazz festival, fast-paced Big Band music and wonderful interpretations of jazz and soul classics.
