Oulu August Festival presents
Oulu August Festival presents every second year the gifted artists of Oulu region. In 2020 there is going to be two multidiciplinary art pieces, Kaikki äitini and Trashcape.
Based on Milja Laine’s photos and poems, Kaikki äitini (All My Moms) is a multimedia presentation consisting of pictures, music and text. The piece deals with transgenerational traumas. The work group consists of three professional artists living in Oulu and one in Helsinki: visual artist Milja Laine (photo collages, text), composer Anthony Rice-Perttunen (composition, improvisation with traditional instruments), sound artist Jussi Alaraasakka (sound landscape, improvisation) Eeva Maria al-Khazaali (poetry editing and reading).
Trashscape is an experimental and interactive environmental piece by the art collective Translation Flowers. Trashscape looks at garbage, materialism and the concept of art from an anthropological point of view, and considers how our consumerism will affect future generations. Trashcape artists Nancy Dewhurst (UK), Inkeri Jäntti (Oulu) and Sunčica Pasuljević-Kandić (Serbia) formed the Translation Flowers collective after meeting at the Varjakka Art Residency in Oulu in summer 2019.
The timetable and more detailed information of the performances will be announced later.
